In short

ideal note has no account and no server. Everything you record is handled on your iPhone and stays there. Nothing is uploaded, and nobody else can read it.

What is stored

Your recordings, their transcripts, the notes written from them, topics, reminders and your settings. All of it sits in the app’s own storage on this device. Delete the app and it goes with it.

How transcription works

Speech becomes text using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. Notes are written by Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, or by a simpler built-in summariser when Apple Intelligence isn’t available. Neither one sends your audio or your words off the device.

Permissions

Microphone, so ideal note can record. Speech recognition, so it can turn what you said into text you can search. Reminders, only if you switch on syncing, and only to add, tick off and remove the to-dos you choose to keep. You can withdraw any of these in iOS Settings whenever you like.

Apple Reminders

With syncing on, the to-dos you keep are written into Apple Reminders along with the sentence they came from. From there they travel through your own iCloud account, under Apple’s privacy policy rather than this one. Syncing stays off until you turn it on.

What never happens

No tracking. No advertising identifiers. No analytics. Nothing is sold and nothing is shared. Your notes never reach us, under any circumstances.

Children

ideal note isn’t aimed at children under 13, and collects nothing from anyone.
