Questions people ask

Does it work without a connection?

Yes, all of it. Transcription and note writing both run on the iPhone, and the app makes no network requests at all. A plane, a basement or a sauna are all fine.

Do I need Apple Intelligence?

No. Where it’s available — iPhone 15 Pro and newer — it writes the titles, summaries and topics. Where it isn’t, a simpler built-in summariser takes over: plainer notes, but recording, transcription, search, topics and reminders all work the same. Settings tells you which one you’re getting.

How long can one recording be?

Up to an hour. It stops itself there rather than quietly filling your phone if a tap gets forgotten in a pocket.

What happens if the app is interrupted mid-recording?

You keep almost everything. The words are saved as they’re heard, and the audio is written continuously rather than only at the end, so an interrupted recording costs a few seconds rather than the whole thing. The note is waiting for you the next time you open the app.

What if there are no words in the recording?

It describes the sound instead of failing. Music playing, people talking, rain — the note tells you what it heard, and keeps the audio.

Do my notes sync between devices?

Not yet. Notes live on the iPhone that recorded them. An iPhone backup includes them, so a new phone restored from backup keeps everything.

Does the Apple Watch app work away from my phone?

Yes. The Watch records on its own and queues the audio, which is delivered whenever your iPhone is next in range — including after you’ve closed the app on the Watch. Transcription and summarising then happen on the phone, so a watch note ends up identical to any other.

Are the recordings kept after they’re transcribed?

By default, yes, because a transcript is a good record but not a perfect one. You can switch that off in Settings so audio is discarded once the note is written, or delete the recording from an individual note and keep its text.

What happens to my notes if I stop subscribing?

They stay exactly where they are, and stay searchable. The subscription only governs recording new ones past the free 250.

Where is any of this stored?

In the app’s own storage on your device, and nowhere else. There is no account and no server. Delete the app and it all goes with it.
